In this workshop, we’ll focus on formative assessment, as it is the key to meaningful student growth throughout the school year—it helps us adjust instruction in real time and gives students the feedback they need to keep improving. We’ll take a look at real student writing and their scores, using trait-based scoring guides. Sample comments help us talk to students about their writing--what’s working and what still needs some work.
Most importantly, this approach is practical. It supports students without overwhelming them, and it gives us, as teachers, a clear efficient way to assess writing without spending hours doing it.
